SO:NI Lavery's Gig - 13-05-10

Well I'm all finished from last night. There was a quick change in the lineup as unfortunately, Disco in Paris couldn't make it and Malaika Shaw stood in with her wonderful acoustic session.

Malaika took to the stage with nothing more than an acoustic guitar and her voice, but boy is that all she needed! She graced us with wonderful groovy tones and tunes. While the venue was rather empty at this stage she got an amazing reception. She's one to watch in the future.

Next up where Sensible Creation. This was their first Belfast gig and they made their mark in Belfast last night. Their pop/rock sounds bounced along nicely.

The main head liners, Seeds of Love really didn't disappoint. They contrasted nicely with the previous artists with their folk music. It took a while for all five members of the band to get set up and tune the many acoustic guitars and mandolins but once ready they really brought the house down. The lead singer had an air of Bob Dylan about his singing which was nice to see. All the band where tightly and the various stringed instruments helped to provide a nice sonic landscape.

It was a tough venue to photography, mainly due to the LED lights that washed the entire stage in green light and for this reason many of the images have been converted to black and white. It was an enjoyable evening with a nice range of music genres and craic.  I'd like to thank all the bands, Lavery's Bar and SO:NI for providing the evening entrainment.

Promotion

Today I've been putting my name out there on various forums and Facebook.  Offered my services to the members of  Metal Ireland and Fastfude.  We'll see how that goes.  Also set up an Artist and Group page on Facebook to get my friends to spread the word.  I may run a competition so stay tuned.

So what do you want to know?

My name is Peter Stuart and at the time of writing I'm 22.  I have been photography since 2006 when I bought a Nikon D50.  For a while I was happy with it until I came to upgrading and found that the prices where higher than that of Canon's.  I therefore jumped shipped and been happy since late 2006 shooting Canon.  Over the years I've expanded from just shooting flowers in the garden to covering various gigs, motor sport events and a whole range of portraits and architecture.

In mid 2009 I was asked to photograph my friend's band, Ashfall, play their first gig in a bar in Belfast.  This was a tough shoot as there was minimal lighting, fast moving subjects and the deafening, face melting solos to contend with.  However the band were very happy with the images produced and it has lead to another of other such shoots.

Now in 2010 I am contemplating about running Blackvault Photography as a gig photography business and it seems to be working.  Just need to get the prices right and I feel I can make inroads into this area of photography.

Welcome

Welcome to my new blog.

My aim to share with you my trials and tribulations of setting out into the world of gig photography.  I will post shots and little reviews about the various bands that I photograph.
